VITAMIN C SUPPLEMENT: WHAT IS IT USEFUL FOR?

The vitamin C in the My Immuno supplement is in the form of Ascorbic Acid (the natural form of Vitamin C) with the addition of Bioflavonoids (natural molecules contained in lemons and oranges) and the amino acids Lysine and Proline.

The role of Vitamin C is fundamental because together with the amino acids Lysine and Proline it constitutes our connective tissue (or collagen). These three elements are therefore present throughout our body and it is intuitive that having a healthy connective tissue is important for our health.

In addition, there are cells in our body that need to move through our tissues. These are for example white blood cells, eggs, but also viruses and cancer cells. To pass through the tissues, these cells use enzymes (proteolytic enzymes) that dissolve the connective tissue to let the cell pass. Lysine deactivates these enzymes, resulting in regulation of inflammation in blood vessels and helping to repair the walls of blood vessels.

Vitamin C also has a strong antioxidant power (see also antioxidant supplement) and counteracts the action of free radicals; it promotes the regular absorption of iron and also intervenes in the immune system, strengthening it.

VITAMIN C REQUIREMENTS

The minimum recommended amount of vitamin C varies depending on the government agency in question. The World Health Organization recommends 45 mg/day, but some suggest doses ranging from 180 to 1000 mg per day.

VITAMIN C DEFICIENCY: WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Vitamin C and Lysine deficiencies are the main causes of lowered immune defenses and cardiovascular problems because these compounds are necessary to repair the walls of blood vessels, formed by collagen, when they are damaged.

A severe deficiency of vitamin C also causes scurvy, from which it takes its name “ascorbic acid” which prevents (a-) scurvy.

VITAMIN C TOXICITY

One of the effects reported from vitamin C overdose is diarrhea, but there is no known lethal dose for humans.
